Liquor seized, one held
The city traffic police today caught a Roopnagar resident who was allegedly smuggling liquor in his mini truck. Police said the traffic police was conducting checks on the Chandigarh-Dhanas road. At about 12.30 p.m. they signalled a Tata 407 coming from Mullanpur to stop, but the driver started reversing the vehicle.The driver of the vehicle, Jasbir Singh, neither had any valid documents nor the permit for transportation of liquor, said a press statement issued by SP traffic Balbir Singh.

3-yr-old dies
A three-year-old child died after he fell in a pond last evening. Police sources said Aditya, a resident of Dadumajra colony, fell while playing. He was taken to the PGI, where he died this morning.

Woman commits suicide
A mmaried woman, in her 30s, reportedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance here. Lakshmi, a resident of Sector 32, had three children. She consumed poison around 1 a.m. last night and was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Two held
The police have arrested Manimajra residents Raj Kumar and Paramjit Singh for allegedly misbehaving with some women. They were nabbed from Sector 20.

Whiskey seized
The police have arrested Burail village resident Pardeep Kumar and recovered 50 pouches of Hero whiskey from his possession. Sector 34 resident Charanjit Singh reported to the police that his Maruti car CH-01-E-6371 has been stolen.
