A special court on Saturday refused to close the case of telecast rights of the 1999 World Cup cricket and 1997 French and Wimbledon Open against Prasar Bharati CEO K.S. Sarma and some other officials. Special judge Dinesh Dayal rapped the CBI for its ‘‘faulty investigation’’ and asked it to probe further.

Doordarshan had to submit their bid by May 5, 1997 to the England and Wales Cricket Board for the World Cup. DD was the only company which could conduct terrestrial telecast in India but as DD officials failed to submit their bid on time, the rights were sold by the ECB to ESPN/Star Sports for $ 12 million.
