Couple arrested in Deepali murder case

A couple-Rabi and Shipra Mondol-arrested in connection with the murder of Deepali Saha, was produced before the South 24 Parganas police on Wednesday.

A couple 8212; Rabi and Shipra Mondol 8212; arrested in connection with the murder of Deepali Saha, was produced before the South 24 Parganas police on Wednesday.

Saha8217;s body was recovered from Jorapukur, near Thakurpukur police station on November 18. Police claim that the couple had lured the victim to their home, offered her drinks and when she became unconscious, strangulated her. Later, they tied her hands and dumped her into a pond.

8220;The couple was involved in flesh trade and after the murder, Saha took away her jewellery and mobile phone,8221; said Ajay Ranade, Police Superintendent of South 24 Parganas.

8220;Police suspect that the motive of the murder was robbery. The victim8217;s involvement in the trade is not yet clear and we are yet to establish how she knew the murderers,8221; added Ranade.

After the murder, the couple had tried to sell Saha8217;s jewellery to Tapan Karmakar, a jeweller in Jadavpur, said the police.

The couple was accused of the murder of Raman Saha, a Behala-based businessman, nearly 18 months ago, added a police officer.
