
Having virtually sounded election bugle with its farmers8217; rally in the capital on Sunday, the Congress has planned rallies across the country to campaign for the UPA Government8217;s initiatives for the aam aadmi.
To this end, Congress Legislature Party leaders and state Congress chiefs from 15 states met under the chairmanship of party8217;s Programme Coordination unit head Kishore Chandra Deo at the Congress headquarters here on Monday.
The remaining states will meet on Tuesday. 8220;Through this campaign, to be completed before April-end, we will reach out to the masses and tell them about the pro-people policies of our Government in the last four years, which have culminated in a pro-poor and pro-farmer Budget this year,8221; said senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily.
The party will organise state-level rallies followed by district-level campaigns. Some plans have already been finalised, including a rally by Sonia Gandhi in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh on March 14, and another appearance by her at the valedictory session and a rally in Kanpur Uttar Pradesh on March 31. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia will address a joint rally in Guwahati on April 3.
