Even as the announcement for Assembly polls is round the corner in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh—for the first time in the last five years in power— is organising a birthday bash to celebrate his 57th birthday at Rajnandgaon on October 15. The event is scheduled to be held at the Krishi Upaj Mandi ground at Rajnandgaon on Wednesday.

The people of his hometown in Kawardha district are also organising a function for Singh on the day. A large number of people are expected to gather to greet the Chief Minister who, according to sources, had initiated a series of measures for the development of the state in general and Kawardha and Rajnandgaon districts in particular.

Singh’s birthday bash at Rajnandgaon from where Singh had been voted to the Lok Sabha in the past, comes at a time when speculations are rife that the CM is all set to shift from his present Dongergaon Assembly constituency. Party sources that he may chose Rajnandgaon, Kawardha or Raipur (North).

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Ramesh Varliyani said the ruling BJP was apparently trying to judge the mood of the electorate. Such tactics were indicative of the prevalent panic in the BJP camp about their winning prospects, he added.
