KOTTAYAM, MAY 30: Communist Party of India Marxist general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet has said that the Congress party has neither a definite programme nor agenda in the ensuing election and predicted that it would have no chance of forming a stable government at the Centre.

Inaugurating the valedictory convention of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Vaikom Satyagraha organised by the party in the city on Saturday evening, Surjeet castigated CWC member A K Antony for alleging that the CPM was amassing wealth. Surjeet recalled the CPM leaders8217; contribution of wealth to the party. He wanted to know whether the Congress could single out any leader who had done so. On the contrary, as many as 26 ministers of the then P V Narasimha Rao government were facing corruption cases.

For raising a memorial to the late EMS, the CPM could raise crores of rupees within two days on account of the mass support base the party enjoyed. The Congress cannot undertake such an effort because its support base waseroding, he said. Antony cannot mislead the people of Kerala with the charge of the CPM amassing wealth, he said. It was the Congress which had subjected the country to be slaves of World Bank, IMF and multinationals. The rich were becoming richer and the poor poorer because of this policy. Surjeet made it clear that the CPM policy was to isolate the BJP and defeat the Congress. He was confident that the LDF would come to power again in Kerala.

He extolled the contributions made by the leaders of Vaikom satyagraha to the social fabric of the country and to the national freedom movement. He said there were many such social struggles in the country around that time which had become part of the national freedom movement.
