NEW DELHI, Oct 24: The Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party are set to have a strategic alliance for the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh under which the BSP will not put up candidates in seats where it has little chance of victory.

This was indicated by BSP chief Kanshi Ram at a rally here this afternoon. While making it clear that the two parties would not have a formal understanding, he said that the BSP8217;s goal was to defeat the 8220;communal8221; BJP and increase its own strength.

The Congress also confirmed its deal with BSP with its spokesman Ajit Jogi saying that his party would contest all the 320 Assembly seats but the parties would work for the defeat of communal forces.
