Cola multinationals Coke and Pepsi moved the Kerala High Court today against the Kerala government8217;s move to ban their colas, saying that the ban was based entirely on test results declared by an NGO, the Centre for Science and Environment, and therefore was not tenable. Separate petitions moved by the two companies have alleged that some vested interests were working behind the move to ban the drinks.
The petitions have maintained that only the Centre can ban a product under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act and not the state government.
The Kerala Government had invoked the PFA Act to ban the two colas. The High Court has posted the case for Monday.
