VADODARA, July 8: It8217;s only 3 days and Barodians are slowly getting used to it. Having used the road in Sayajibaug all these years, the vehicles naturally turn in that direction. It is only when the residents reach the garden they realise that the road is no longer there for them.
The road passing from the Sayajibaug was closed for vehicular traffic from Monday by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC in a bid to prevent nearly 1,500 birds and animals from being affected due to air pollution.
At the disposal are two alternative roads: between Narhari Hospital, Fatehganj and Bal Bhavan, Karelibaug and, Aradhana Talkies-Khaswadi crematorium road. The road between the Hospital and Bal Bhavan was opened on Monday.
Director Parks and Gardens Mohan Patel told Express Newsline that the one and a half km stretch between Fatehganj and Pratapganj Police Chowki adjoining the garden has been declared a parking zone. It was because of this food joint owners were moved to the opposite side a few months ago.
Those working in the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, Sardar Patel Planetarium, Health Museum, Milk Bar and the Baroda Citizens Council BCC, and other offices located in the baug, will be allowed to bring their vehicles inside. Some relaxations might be also given to old women using the ladies club located in the garden.
A large gate has been put up near the atithi gruhs in the garden beyond which the vehicles are not allowed.
Those wanting to enter the garden from the eastern part from near Bal Bhavan are parking vehicles near the narrow bridge nearby. Patel said the VMC would soon make parking arrangement in a huge piece of land where the old Garden office is situated. The garden staff had shifted to another building when the Narhari-Karelibaug road was in the final stages of completion.
