
Mobiles phones, cell phone batteries and chargers, audio and video CDs, DVD players, knives, electric wires, cash and transistors were seized from the high security Sabarmati Central Jail premises in one of the biggest surprise raids carried out in the jail on Tuesday evening.
A total of 110 personnel were involved in the operation carried out jointly by the city police8217;s Detection of Crime Branch DCB and the jail authorities. Five mobile phones, three cell phone batteries, two mobile chargers, one DVD player, two transistors, two knives, nine audio and video CDs, electric wires and Rs 1,900 cash were seized from the inmates in extensive searches that lasted till late on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCB, Abhay Chudasma said the raids were conducted following some leads given by jail clerk Ashok Zapadia and his accomplice Mehmood Khan Pathan during interrogation. They were arrested on charge of smuggling mobile phone into the jail. At present, they are DCB8217;s custody. 8220;A complaint was later filed in the Sabarmati police station. Investigation into the case is being done by the DCB,8221; he added.
