Hey pal, wanna party?
Every fad has its day. So now it’s friendship day on August 2. Hallmark Cards, cashing in on this day, has organised activities over three days, which started on July 31. After the first day of games and activities targetted at collegians, August 1 will see Abbas and Preeti, the Chui Mui Si Tum Lagti Ho duo, who are to visit Hallmark outlets in the city.
Those who have a way with words can scribble their messages on a graffiti wall. And those who do buy a gift or card at any of these outlets are entitled to a free pass to a friendship party at one of the discotheques in town. And guess what? Abbas and Preeti will be joining them on the dance floor. Event managers VOICE tell us that even the decor at the venue will be done up to symbolise friendship, with cut-outs of famous friends like Laurel and Hardy. Wanna party, here’s your chance. After all that’s what friends are for, right?
The heart will go on
They deserve all the accolades they get. This year, the Jidda Puraskar and the Swawalambhan Puraskar could not have been awarded to more deserving candidates than Hariram Kohli and Mastan Sheikh respectively. Being a tetraplegic, confined to his wheelchair at the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Khadki, has not deterred Kohli, who has mastered the art of painting with his mouth. It’s been almost two decades since he has been at Khadki and his brushes have created more than 10,000 pictures, which find demand not just in the country but in foreign shores like Denmark, Italy, Norway, France, Singapore.
This year’s Swawalambhan awardee is a true sportsman. Struck by polio in his childhood, he has overcome his handicap to become a sportsman of national repute, is a recipient of the Shiv Chhatrapati Award and has also traversed the distance between Pune and Kanyakumari in a span of 22 days.
Heroes in real life, these!High Fives
Sandeep Soparkar’s Modelling and Personality Makeover workshop draws to a close on August 2, with five aspiring models presenting their portfolios. A quick rewind of what the participants gained from the workshop will be demonstrated by Soparkar at the passing out parade at Holiday Inn. The five young men were given intense training in etiquette, personal grooming, personality development, fitness, make-up, choreography, self-esteem development and stage presence and catwalk by Ewa Maria Cherukuru, Minnie Sule, Ritika Ramtri, Asha Sherlekar, Almas Kazi, Ratna Khemani, Pradeep Shetty and Soparkar himself. The modelling bug seems to have bitten the Pune males, who want to make a scene in Mumbai!
