
Boats rescue marooned in Khamrej
Surat: Nine people, marooned for a couple of days in Laksana Khadi of Kamrej taluka, were rescued with the help of boats by the Kamrej police, the district rural control room said. According to the police, the nine were trapped as water from the Tapi gushed into their huts. Kamrej PSI B T Kin, lead the team that rescued the nine, the police added.
Cong protest
Congress workers will take out a rally and gherao the collectorate on Friday to protest against the alleged failure of the district administration to provide cash doles to flood-affected people. Leaders Amarsinh Chaudhary and C D Patel said on Thursday that the rally will begin in the evening from the Chowk Bazaar.
In a bid to check outbreak of any disease, the Surat Municipal Corporation, sealed as many as 560 roadside larris selling eatables and cold drinks. Also more than 1150 kg of food stuff was destroyed by the SMC8217;s health department. Larri-owners have been asked not to operate for a month. Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan, in an appeal today, asked the citizens not to eat or drink anything from larris. Quality hotels and restaurants will, however, remain open, he said.

Photo exhibition
Members of the Indian Society for Continuing Education have organised a photo exhibition on various facets of the life of noted social worker and leader Bhalchandra Trivedi. The show will remain open for public between 10 am and 7 pm at Gayatri Chambers, near Railway Station, till September 26, a society press note said, adding that the exhibition was held to pay homage to the leader on his sixth death anniversary.
