
Four eating joints sealed
The Food Inspection Branch of the Surat Municipal Corporation sealed four eating joints Laxmi Sweet Mart behind Jivan Jyot, Rajasthan Bhojanalay near the Municipal Transport Godown Ring Road, Chamunda Restaurant at Sahara Darwaja, and Hariharan Farsan Mart near Linear bus stand on Wednesday. The Branch officials surveyed 35 places and served notices on shops failing to meet health standards. Food inspectors also destroyed 428 kg farsan, sweets, and fruit juices. Water samples were also collected from 20 places and sent for testing.
SMA workshop
A workshop on Learning from Each Other8217; has been organised by the Surat Management Association on June 12. Participants will speak on what their organisations have done since liberalisation and their future plans to face the global competition.

Congress threat
The city unit of Congress has threatened to move the court if the Surat Municipal Corporation goes ahead with it plan to develop Katargam lake for boating as part of its ongoing beautification drive. SMC plans to shift 170 families living on the banks of the lake. Congress city president Thakorebhai Naik said these families, mostly tribals, were alloted the land by the then Maharastra government in 1955. The area did not fall under the municipal limits. Naik called on Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan on Wednesday and asked him to reconsider the decision. He said from June 15 the party workers will sit on relay hunger strike in front of the SMC office, and take out a rally on June 22.
Health camp
VADODARA:
The District Social Defence Court under the State Department of Social Defence will organise a health camp in the Bodeli village of the Sankheda Taluka on June 12 under the State8217;s Parivartan Sankalp8217; scheme to bring various facilities at the doorsteps of the differently abled and widowed and destitute women. The camp will be held at the Dhoklia Hospital in Bodeli 9 a.m. onwards.
Contest winners
Prince Mohan IPCL School, Keta Shah Tejas Vidyalaya and Pritesh Mohan IPCL School stood first, second and third, respectively from the primary and KG sections in a painting competition organised jointly by the Gujarat State Fertilisers and Chemicals and Gujarat Pollution Control Board in the city recently. Mihir Gandhi Sardar Vinay Mandir, Vaidehi Shah Sardar Vallabhbhai Vidyalaya and Mita Yadav Basil School, stood first, second and third respectively in the Secondary school section. Over 250 children participated in the contest.
