Child abandoned

VADODARA, Sept 1: After delivering a baby boy at a Raopura-based nursing home on Monday, a woman fled the hospital late on Tuesday night, leaving the child behind. The Raopura police have lodged a case and begun investigations.

According to reports, a 22-year-old woman, claiming to be a resident of the city area, admitted herself in the private nursing home recently under the name of Maya Kane. After she disappeared on Tuesday, the nursing home authorities reported the matter to the Raopura police, who discovered both her name and address to be fake.

The police have admitted the child in the SSG hospital, where he has been kept in a infant room and is being looked after by the hospital authorities.

The police said they were working on two probabilities. First, the woman could have delivered the child out of wedlock and abandoned him in fear of social consequences. Or, the police presume, the woman could have been from an economically backward background and unable to take care of her child.
