
June 2: Nachiket Chawathe and Mallika Parekh have been named top seeds for the Mumbai Suburban District Table Tennis Association’s District Ranking tournament to be held from June 4-8.
Mallika won the triple crown in the sub-junior, junior girls and women’s singles categories at the recent State Ranking tournament in Kohlapur.The list of seeds: Men’s singles: 1. State Ranking carrom
The Bindu Madhav Thakre Memorial Maharashtra State ranking prize money Carrom Tournament is being organised by Maharashtra Carrom Association commencing tomorrow at Sir Elly Kadoorie High School, Mazgaon.
The tournament, concluding on June 8, will be conducted under the auspices of the Maharashtra Carrom Association, has attracted around 430 players from major Carrom playing districts of Maharashtra which includes 375 players for Open Singles, 50 for women singles. The following the seedings have been given: Open singles: 1. Nagsen Etambe, 2. Dilesh khedekar, 3. Aslam Chikte, 4. Niranjan Nimkar 5. Arun Kedar, 6. Sanjay Mande, 7. Narsing Rao, 8. Jagan Bengle.
Women singles: 1. Anupama Kedar, 2. Monza Cooper, 3. Malti Kelkar, 4. Shilpa Joshi, 5. Varsha Kale, 6. Sangeeta Chandorkar, 7. Shubhada Nagaonkar 8. Manisha Nagaonkar.
This tournament is being sponsored by Shri Bala Nandgaonkar and Shri Yeshwant Jadhav, Municipal Corporator. As much as Rs 75,000 is being offered as cash prizes including prizes for break-to-finish, black-to-finish and Player-of-the-Day.

Lawrence D’Souza (Yellow House) was adjudged Outstanding Sportsman at the conclusion of the St Peter’s Summer Camp.
He was presented with the Gold Medal sponsored by Raj K Mahtani, proprietor of Lalchand Dhalamall and Sons who sponsored this Camp for the Seventh consecutive year.
Silver medals were won by Rellin Vaz, David D’Souza Steianna Gomes, Patricia D’souza, Kimberely D’sa, Elton Vessaokar, Denver D’Souza, Altia Fernandes, Sabista Pometkar and Lucretia Menezes.Benefit match washed out
Heavy showers in the morning washed out the benefit match’ for Test cricket umpires Daea Dotiwalla and Piloo Reporter, without ball being bowled at the Sardar Patel Stadium at Valsad on Sunday.
Cricket lovers waited up to 2 p.m. when umpires Surencha Sharma and Bomi Jamula called off play after inspecting the pitch twice.
The Valsad District Cricket Association tried their best to make good conditions but in vain.
Dothiwalla and Reporter received first installment cheque of Rs 2,50,000/- each.
Films star Tom Alter and Naseeruddin Shah who were to take part were also present.
