West Bengal Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty described the charges against Dalmiya as ‘baseless and untrue’ and said he was being harassed ‘unnecessarily’.

“Not a single charge against Dalmiya is acceptable and it is not for the first time that he has been subjected to harassment,” Chakraborty, who had supported Dalmiya’s candidature for the CAB president’s post against Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee’s nominee Prasun Mukherjee in 2006, told reporters. Asked if the state government would allow the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) to hold matches at the Eden Garden, Chakraborty said, “If they want, we will give it to them. We are not loyal servants of the BCCI.”
