
Mumbai, October 22: China’s unseeded Chan Tian Yuan defeated India’s last hope Chetan Baboor in the men’s semi-finals before vanquishing compatriot Hao Shuai in style in the title-clash to win the top prize of $ 6,000 in the 15th Asian Cup Table Tennis Tournament here on Sunday.
National No 1 Baboor, the third seed who is ranked 84th in the World, fell to the unranked Yuan 21-9, 18-21, 15-21, 13-21, in the semi-final before the latter defeated Shuai 23-21, 21-17, 24-22 in the title clash held in the evening at the Andheri Sports complex in North-West Mumbai.
Shua got $ 3,000 while Baboor, who had stormed into the semi-finals last night by ousting Yang Shun Hsiang of Chinese Taipei in four games, won $ 1,250 out of the total prize money of $ 25,000 on offer.
The women’s final was also an all Chinese affair between two unseeded players in which Tang Yuan defeated Guo Yue 21-19, 21-16, 21-13, to take home the winners prize of $ 5,000.
