CHANDIGARH, April 27: In a meeting of the chamber re-allotment committee called here in the chamber of UT District and Sessions Judge B. S. Bedi to discuss the issue of re-allocation of chambers to lawyers, it was decided that president of the Bar Association would be entrusted the task of conducting a fresh survey with regards to chambers which are lying vacant and are in need of re-allocation.
The decision was taken after it was felt that the survey earlier conducted by the Administration was marked by various irregularities. According to sources, the need to deal with the chamber issue is becoming all the more pressing with each passing day, especially in view of the fact that the six-month deadline given by the HC in this regard has long expired.
It may be recalled that some lawyers had filed a writ in the High Court regarding reallotment of chambers and the Administration had been given six months to address the problem. But even till today no comprehensive policy in this regard has been chalked out.
Today8217;s meeting was held after the DC issued a notice to this effect in the morning. The meeting was attended apart from the DC and the Sessions Judge, president of the bar association N. K. Nanda, estate officer, tehsildar and SDM Central.
N.K. Nanda, when contacted, said, quot;We have called the SDO, Buildings tomorrow and we will conduct the survey. The issue will be addressed at the earliestquot;.
