The media adviser to former chief minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh, B I S Chahal, once again failed to appear before the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday where contempt proceedings have been initiated against him. Chahal8217;s counsel moved an application seeking exemption from appearance on medical grounds. A medical certificate by a Glasgow-based doctor, where Chahal currently resides, states that he is suffering from hypertension, chest pain and dizziness. Declaring Chahal unfit to travel, the doctor has prescribed rest for eight weeks.
Earlier, a full Bench headed by Chief Justice Vijender Jain questioned the affidavit filed by Chahal. Pointing out contradictions, the Chief Justice said during the last hearing it was not disclosed that Chahal had already left the country. He said an impression was given that he was not present due to the death in the family whereas the plea shows the death of a friend.
