MUMBAI, Nov 21: Central railway (Mumbai) destroyed Vasco Sports Club (Goa) 4-0 today at the Cooperage to hurtle towards qualifying for the quarter-final league of the 98th Bristol Rovers Cup football tournament. The resounding victory in Group Y of the pre-quarterfinal league brought a broad smile on the face of coach Irenio Vaz who stated before the tournament that his side was easily good enough to be seeded straight into the quarter-finals.Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) confined Calcutta Port Trust (CPT) to the also-rans with a 2-1 win in the other match of the group played earlier and now meet Vasco in their concluding fixture. At the moment Central and ITI have four points apiece but the railwaymen's 5-1 goal record against ITI's 3-2, and far easier opponents in Calcutta Port Trust make them odds-on-favourites to go through after the final round of matches on Monday. ITI will take on a presumably demoralised Vasco and must hope for a Central defeat or draw, or a sufficiently large win over theGoans to go through should the railway side win.Asif Jamal and Arshad Ansari scored two apiece to sink the Goan side guided by Portuguese national, Jose `Zeca' Migliette.Central, though, organised their thrusts from the right flank which surprisingly Vasco did little to check. After the Goans wasted chances, spurned by mid-fielders Alex Alvares and Louis Nickson, Central striker Asif Jamal scored a gem of a goal with a 60-yard run from an Arshad Ansari pass. The ebullient striker cut into the area and slotted past an advanced Richard Sanches in the Vasco goal to draw first blood in the 38th minute.Central's committment was best exemplified by wing-back Sadanand Kakodkar, a constant thorn in Vasco's defence with an oscillatory role up and down the pitch. It were Kakodkar and his goalkeeper, Raghuveer Khanolkar, on hindsight, that scripted Vasco's downfall. With the Goans coming on to the pitch after the interval, all cylinders firing, Khanolkar showed charachter to douse the fire - foilingGadekar, then Hassan.Kakodkar then struck a vital blow that shattered Vasco's mental and physical reserves. A long punt had Vasco 'keeper Sanches groping in the poor floodlights and Arshad lurking nearby touched home to the dismay of Goan fans in the 53rd minute.More fury from Vasco before buckling down and surrendering. Striker Gregory Clark failed to get the better of Khanolkar in two quick raids on the hour and the railway 'keeper was good enough yet to frustrate mid-fielder Alex Alvares within minutes.Asif Jamal then conjured a goal out of nothing with a 30-yard boomer in the 70th minute to make it 3-0 as Vasco wilted. Arshad completed the rout with his second on the three-quarter mark from substitute Hameed Ansari's pass.ITI scrape past CPT: Striker Peter put ITI ahead in only two minutes after receiving Sudhakar's pass from left but mid-fielder Pronit Dey equalised in the 13th minute with an attractive goal. The CPT midfielder tucked away Sujit Dey's diagonal with the outstep but the goalhardly changed the trend of play.ITI scored the match-winner from the penalty spot, when R Prakash shot home after Santanu Basel blocked Muralidharan's attempt in the 54th minute.
