The Panchkula Police department on Tuesday said the project for installing closed-circuit television CCTVs cameras across the city had failed to take off due to some technical snag.

The department will soon replicate a similar project in Gurgaon, for which, around 65 points across the city have been identified. To come up at a cost amounting in crores of rupees, these CCTVs will be put up, not only at various traffic light points but at busy market places and entry and exit points of the city.

They have looked into the matter after Newsline

had reported about the non-functioning of CCTVs in Panchkula.nbsp;

8220;There was some technical problem with the CCTV system due to which, it failed to take off. Besides transmission problem, the digital video recorders too developed some fault, due to which they had to be sent for repair every other day. Besides, it being a localised method, the system could not work,8221; said Sandeep Khirwar, superintendent of police, Panchkula.

He added that the department is now planning to have an integrated system for the same. 8220;It will be based on the system that exists in Gurgaon. While the proposal is in its initial stage, around 65 points throughout the district have been identified for putting up the close circuit cameras.8221;

He added that as funds for the project will be made available only by the next financial year, the Police department is making all efforts to revive the existing localised system put up at different traffic light points.
