CBI to probe Cogentrix

BANGALORE, February 27: The Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI into the alleged kickbacks in the setting up of the Rs 4200 crore coal-based power plant by Cogentrix Engineering at Mangalore.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Ram Prakash Sethi and Justice V Gopal Gowda directed the State Government to get 8220;a FIR registered with the CBI under the provisions of Delhi Special Police Establishment Act for various cognizable offences without naming any person or group of persons as accused8221;.

The court order came on a PIL seeking a joint probe by the CAG ED and the CBI into the alleged payment of bribes amounting to 8220;whole or part of Hong Kong 191 million8221; between 1994-96 to set up 1000 MW power project.
