
February 4: India missed chances galore as they went down fighting 1-2 to Canada in the second match of the Akhbar-El-Yom International Hockey Tournament here today.
Canada, who lost their opening encounter to hosts Egypt 0-3, got their acts together well today striking through Milkovich and then sealing their win with another fine goal in the 16th minute of the second half by Tom Green.
India, who began their campaign with a 4-1 win over Kenya yesterday, played an aggressive game and found the equaliser in the 26th minute when Brojen Singh banged home a skipper Sandeep singh pass to take the break on level terms 1-1.
But the second string team failed to breach the Canadian defence in the second half despite creating a plethora of chances. Canada, who got into the lead in the opening minute off a penalty corner conversion by Peter Milkovich, struck the winner through Green in the 51st minute.
India were guilty of squandering six penalty corners,three in each half, while Canada could manage just threein the first half. Team manager Dr Raj Kumar Jaipal said the team played very well during the second half. 8220;They tried valiantly six times but unfortunately could not score.
