LAS PALMAS, SPAIN, June 18: Supermodel Naomi Campbell reportedly had to have her stomach pumped to prevent her from lapsing into a coma after ingesting too many tranquilizers.

The Canary Islands newspaper La Provincia, citing a leaked police report, said Campbell had to be rushed to a hospital early Sunday morning after swallowing 20 tablets of the anti-depressant alprazolan.

Campbell had been drinking alcohol when she overdosed on the tranquilizer, said the newspaper8217;s account of the police investigation. A bottle of alprazolan was found on a table next to her hotel bed.

Although Campbell8217;s life was never in danger, the amount of tranquilizers ingested could have thrown her into a coma, the report said. The police report said that Campbell was sprawled across her bed when her personal secretary demanded the hotel call an ambulance. Spanish media reported that the 27-year-old model was admitted for a drug overdose at a Las Palmas hospital on Sunday morning following a heated argument with her boyfriend, the Flamenco dancer Joaquin Cortes.

Representatives for the London-born model denied the overdose reports, saying she suffered an allergic reaction to antibiotics.

After spending 18 hours in the Our Lady of the Pines hospital, Campbell was released late on Sunday and left the Canary Islands soon afterward for Paris.Campbell has since told reporters that she drank a glass of champagne in combination with the antibiotics.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Campbell also denied reports she fought with Cortes: 8220;He doesn8217;t speak English and I don8217;t speak Spanish. We barely can hold a conversation that8217;s proper together.8221;
