CA launches 8216;Most Valuable Player8217; programme

The MVP has been established following on from the success of a similar program run by the Professional Cricketers8217; Association PCA in the UK.

It combines all aspects of a players game and performances to give him a ranking in relation to his peers.

The rankings then determine the MVP in each form of cricket and will culminate in the overall MVP.

8220;The ACA is excited to launch the MVP and proud to partner with MasterCard and Cricket Australia on this project,8221; ACA Chief Executive Paul Marsh was quoted as saying in a CA statement.

8220;We anticipate the MVP will change the way player performances are viewed as it provides an all encompassing assessment of each players individual performance with statistics that are relevant to the modern game,8221; he said.

Australian batsman Mike Hussey welcomed the move, saying 8220;I, for once, am really looking forward to watching the rankings closely each match.8221;

The calculation period for the 2008/09 International MVP commenced on May 22 with Australia8217;s first Test in the West Indies and will conclude at the end of the Australian International domestic season on February 15.
