
NEW DELHI, February 8: With the arrest of four UP-based youths, the north district police claim to have solved the murder of a businessman in Gokulpuri last month. All the accused are in their early twenties.
The breakthrough followed a tip-off, which the police received on Thursday last about two youths who would be meeting near a cinema in north Delhi. The youths were reportedly planning to commit a crime in the area.
When the police overpowered the youths, they recovered two loaded country-made pistols from the them. The youths were identified as Veer Pal and Ashok Kumar.
They reportedly told the police they had obtained the firearms from their associates, Jagvinder Singh and Manoj Kumar, who are residents of Loni near Ghaziabad.
The police raided the Loni houses of Singh and Kumar yesterday and arrested the duo. DCP north S.N. Srivastava said that during questioning, the youths confessed to killing Hans Kumar Jain, a Gokulpuri businessman, on January 29. Two of their accomplices, Munna and Sanjay, are still absconding.
DCP Srivastava said that Ashok Kumar has been involved in two cases of murder. He had reportedly shot his wife a few years ago and another youth in 1993.
