Though the controversy involving Punjab Cabinet Minister Hira Singh Gabria and Assistant Sub-Inspector ASI Hardev Singh has finally settled, the ASI managed to hog the limelight for a week.

On December 13, the ASI had alleged that the minister had threatened him and exactly a week later December 20, both called a truce.

While it is a routine affair for the ministers to be in news, for a lower-rung policeman, it is very rare to hit the headlines for days together.

The ASI dominated the media attention after he lodged a daily diary report DDR alleging that he feared a threat to his life at the hands of the minister. He had alleged that Gabria had humiliated and threatened him in the presence of some accused persons who were party in a land dispute case. However, the minister had denied the allegations and said he had called the ASI to his office and had just asked him to impartially take any action.

In fact, it turned out to be an unpleasant birthday gift for the

Cabinet minister, who holds the portfolio of Jails, Tourism and Culture, when all the leading newspapers prominently carried the news on December 14 8212; his 62nd birthday.

Now when the matter has been 8216;settled8217;, ASI Hardev Singh refuses to speak anything about the matter saying that it has reached a compromise. He has expressed his satisfaction over the matter. On the other hand, Gabria termed it as a blown-out-of-proportion incident.
