Bail granted to Kapoor couple
Justice Bhakshish Kaur of the Punjab amp; Haryana High Court has granted bail to Mohini Kapoor and her husband, Subhash Kapoor, of Sector 19, Chandigarh, accused of cheating women by means of kitties.

The Kapoors had been arrested in mid June, on allegations that they had induced a number of women into becoming members of various kitties organised by them and had thereafter converted the money so collected to their own use. In this manner, the money of the public had been embezzled to the tune of many lakhs.

On behalf of the Kapoors, it was contended that the dispute was wholly civil in nature and the kitty was not organised by the them. It was a normal kitty which was held at the residence of one or the other members by turn.

Moreover, the investigation of the case was over and even the complaint has been filed in court. There was thus nothing to warrant any further custody of the petitioner.

It was further urged that the investigation report was not supported by any documentary evidence and was based solely on oral assertions.
