When the rest of the telecom players are encashing on the telecom boom in the nation, state-owned BSNL is losing in the race. The firm has just added a little over one million subscribers across the country, against 5 to 6 million by the rivals, making it one of the worst performers in the industry. This has triggered an emergency-like situation at the corporation and BSNL is working out a plan to expand the capacity in its existing network, pending the fructification of its tender to increase network capacity by over 23 million lines which has been mired in one controversy after another.

Existing capacity of BSNL is little over 1 million connections for the nation.
