Putting an end to the conjecture over the appointment of former Australia paceman Bruce Reid as India8217;s bowling instructor for the ongoing tour Down Under, BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya today confirmed that Reid would indeed be taking over. 8216;8216;The Working Committee has appointed Reid as bowling coach for the Indian pacers for the four-Test series in Australia,8217;8217; Dalmiya announced. Dalmiya did not, however, disclose the salary promised to Reid.
It8217;s strange, of course, that the Indian pacers need instructions while on tour to Australia, when they are supposed to be the top five in the country 8212; Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan. It8217;s especially strange as the MRF Pace Academy in India is headed by Dennis Lillee former Australian great and TA Sekhar former Indian left-arm pacer. Surely, the two, together, could have solved the problems?
Dalmiya didn8217;t agree. 8216;8216;The main reason is that of the three left-arm pacers, Zaheer has been inconsistent of late, Nehra has just returned from an injury, and Pathan is totally raw. They need help and the team management told me 8216;we want someone like Bruce Reid who can help our left-arm pacers here in Australia8217;. So we took the decision because we want to help the team do well in every way we can.8217;8217;
