AHMEDABAD, Aug 12: The extended portion of Sardar bridge will be dedicated to the city on August 15. However, no formal inauguration or a function would take place so as not to violate the Model Code of Conduct.
Mayor Maliniben Atit said she along with former mayors, MLAs, MPs, Standing Committee chairman Dharmendra Shah, Leader of Opposition Himmatsingh Patel, corporators and officers of the administrative wing would walk over the extended bridge and dedicate it to the public.
Atit said the corporation would not put up any plaque and had not even got invitation cards printed.
She said the State Election Commissioner had been informed about the dedication of the bridge to the public but no permission was required since no announcement had been made. The Mayor also said that complaints of waterlogging from the Daxini underpass area had been attended to and the lights on the bridge repaired.
In order to ward off criticism, the Mayor on Thursday returned her official car. She said that she had given back the car to the corporation secretary before the election officer acquired it.
