KINGSTON, MARCH 20: Brian Lara will lead West Indies in the last two Tests against Australia and the one-day series that follows, having been on probation as captain for the first two Tests.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), who announced its decision, said it had no hesitation in endorsing the selection committee’s recommendation to retain Lara, man of the match after his double century in the second Test.West Indies were crushed by 312 runs in the first Test in Port of Spain, where they were dismissed for their lowest test total of 51, but bounced back to win the second Test in Kingston by 10 wickets, with Lara scoring 213.
Lara had been appointed skipper only for the first two Tests because of dissatisfaction with his leadership on West Indies’ recent disastrous tour of South Africa, where they lost the Test series 5-0 and the limited overs series 6-1.
