Dwayne Bravo is looking to put the advice he has received from former West Indies captain Brian Lara to good use when the third Test against England gets under way at Old Trafford tomorrow.

Lara could do nothing as his former teammates slumped to a record innings and 283-run defeat in the second Test at Headingley. That left West Indies 0-1 down in the four-match series and needing to avoid defeat in Manchester to keep the series alive.

Lara was often accused during his career of being a selfish player and a bad team man. But West Indies all-rounder Bravo indicated the criticism was misplaced.

8220;Just last Monday night I was on the phone with Brian. He called me, having arrived in London. He still has a big interest in the team8217;s performance.

8220;Brian has a special place in the heart of West Indian cricket and has a lot to offer still. Anything going wrong with our batters, whether it be Chris Gayle or Devon Smith, if he can8217;t get hold of them, he will pass it on to me,8221; Bravo said.

West Indies technique against the swinging ball looked inadequate in Headingley8217;s cold conditions, although they weren8217;t helped by being without senior batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and then seeing captain Ramnaresh Sarwan sustain a tour-ending shoulder injury.
