
CHANDIGARH, Nov 26: Druckgrafen India Limited8217;s chairman-cum-managing director J.L. Nanda was granted bail by UT Judicial Magistrate Ist ClassK.C. Garg in a bounced cheque case, here today.
He was directed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 20,000, besides a surety of the like amount. Nanda was earlier summoned by the court under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act on Professor Umesh Vinayak8217;s complaint.
Vinayak had alleged the dishonouring of a cheque for Rs 2 lakh issued by the accused. It was returned with remarks quot;funds insufficientquot; after being presented to the Union Bank of India8217;s Sector 17 branch, he had added in his complaint before the court.
The accused had initially issued a cheque dated June 30, 1997 but, according to the complainant, he had requested him against presenting the same due to blockade of funds.
The complainant was again requested to defer the presentation of the replacedcheque dated November 1, 1997 till June next year, the complainant8217;s counsel had added.
It had further been alleged that the payment was not made despite the receipt of the demand notice issued by the complainant.
Claiming the cheque to have been issued for repaying a friendly loan taken by his wife, the complainant8217;s counsel had also stated that an assurance regarding the honouring of the cheque had been given by the accused. The case will now come up for further hearing on December 7.
