
Chandigarh, June 11: A bomb-like object, believed by the police to be a canon shell, was found this evening from the wooded area near Kishangarh village here. The villagers were driven into panic till the bomb and explosive experts of the city police took it into their possession. Made of iron and brass and smeared with dirt on all sides, the nearly 10-inch long object weighs 7-8 kg and is shaped like a shell. The rust over a part of it indicates that it must have been quite a few years old.
The object was noticed by a few workers of the UT forest department while they were clearing the overgrowth in the area. A part of the object was rooted in the earth and the workers mistook it for a bomb. The police were called who summoned for the bomb-detection and bomb-squad teams.
Sources said it was not confirmed whether it was used, adding that the investigations were on.
