However, the Assam Government was yet to receive any communication from the outfit till late Monday evening. Assam Police Special Branch IG Khagen Sharma said he had seen the report on the news channel, but had not received anything in writing or over the telephone from the group.
8220;Last time, they had sent us a fax on March 22, declaring a unilateral ceasefire. While we took it at face value, the group8217;s commitment hardly lasted a month when it resumed killings and abductions in a big way again in the hill district,8221; the IGP said.
The DHDJ spokesman was quoted by the TV channel as having appealed to the Northeast Frontier Railways to resume its railway services through the North Cachar Hills district.
The NF Railways has not only suspended operations on the 185-km Lumding-Silchar hill section from Thursday but has also evacuated its staff and their families from the 27 stations that are located in the district after the group targeted trains and killed two of its employees and several labourers working on a gauge conversion project.
