On a day when BSP supremo Mayawati lambasted the Congress-led Government “for misusing the CBI to pin her”, the BJP lost no time in seconding the charge. “These cases had been there for long. I wonder why they were silent till now and have suddenly become violent,” said senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu.
“This Government is misusing the CBI whenever it suits them. It uses the CBI to bail out their supporters and to harm opponents. The UPA regime is selectively using and misusing the investigation agency of the country for its political gains,” he added.
Naidu reiterated that the BJP would contest all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
However, the BJP, which was supposed to come out with its first UP list for the next Lok Sabha elections, has deferred the move by a fortnight. “The Central Election Committee which met here on Saturday postponed the announcement of candidates for UP to the next meeting. The decision is likely by July-end,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.
It is learnt that the party had finalised the names for around 15 seats but there was a hot contest for another 10 seats. Also, it was thought that the possible Congress-SP tie-up could change the political arithmetic in the state.
However, the party has announced candidates for two seats in Arunachal Pradesh. Sitting MPs Kiren Rijuju (West Arunachal) and Tapir Gao (East Arunachal) have been re-nominated.
