NEW DELHI, June 14: Addressing a gathering of Congress councillors yesterday, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee DPCC president Sheila Dikshit said if the Congress has to better its performance in the assembly elections this year, then it will also have to resort to the same practices as used by the BJP. She said that the BJP does not enjoy mass appeal but was successful only because it had been successful in misusing power.
8220;The first thing that we have to do is to get everyone a vote, especially the middle-class residents of new colonies. The BJP indulged in large-scale bogus voting in these elections and that is the only reason they won,8221; she said. Dikshit said that the last five years of BJP rule had ruined Delhi.
Today, it was a polluted city, swarming with flies and mosquitoes, frequent traffic jams and no water or electricity. The residents of JJ clusters did not even have basic facilities, she said. Exhorting Congressmen to do their best, she said that first of all the party should get organised. She felt that the Congress had a lot of enemies, who were doing their best to split the party. This she said, was the biggest pitfall for the party and should be avoided. She also felt that instead of making speeches party members should work for the welfare of the people and only then could they win their support.
Dr Narendra Nath, leader of opposition in MCD House said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had appointed her with a view to consolidate the party.
