
NEW DELHI, AUG 20: BJP today virtually challenged Election Commission8217;s directive barring the Government from screening any documentary on Kargil till the completion of Lok Sabha polls, saying, 8220;National security is an election issue which will be debated.8221;
8220;I don8217;t understand the rationale of the Commission asking not to screen the documentary on Kargil,8221; party general secretary Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.
8220;Who can give guarantee that Pakistan would sic not do anything tomorrow. The film was aimed at boosting the morale of the forces,8221; he said.
To a question on the Commission asking political parties not to make Kargil a poll plank, he said, 8220;National security is an issue for the coming polls and all facets of the matter will be discussed notwithstanding the Commission8217;s stand.8221;
The Election Commission had yesterday barred the screening of a Kargil documentary, saying that will not be 8220;in consonance with the code of conduct8221;.
8220;The internationally acclaimed neutrality of Indian armed forces should not in any direct or indirect manner be brought into comment and criticism,8221; it had said, adding the Defence Ministry and Minister George Fernandes 8220;should keep this in mind8221;.
