
STOCKHOLM, Nov 10: Jonas Bjorkman rallied from a set down and 2-4 in the second set to beat Jan Siemerink in four sets yesterday and win the Stockholm Open for the first time.
The Swede took two hours and 10 minutes before prevailing 3-6, 7-6 7-2, 6-2, 6-4 in front of a sellout crowd at the Royal Tennis Hall, where he had little success in the past years.
It was Bjorkman8217;s 67th match victory of the year, best on the ATP Tour, and his second straight appearance in a final. He lost last Sunday to top-ranked Pete Sampras in the Paris Open.
Bjorkman earned 112,000 for his third ATP Tour singles title of the year. His earlier victories came at Auckland and Indianapolis.
Kafelnikov wins
MOSCOW: Russia8217;s Yevgeny Kafelnikov has downed Petr Korda of the Czech Republic in straight sets, 7-6 7-2, 6-4, to capture the Kremlin Cup and qualify him for this week8217;s ATP Tour championship.
The victory before a near capacity crowd of 18,000 came a year after the top-seeded Kafelnikov lost last year8217;s final in Moscow8217;s Indoor Olympic Stadium to Croatia8217;s Goran Ivanisevic.
