BIS officer dies in train

Ashok Kumar Nagpal 58, lab in-charge of the Northern Regional Office of the Bureau of Indian Standards BIS reportedly died of a heart attack on board the Chandigarh-Delhi Kalka Shatabdi on Thursday evening.

Ashok Kumar Nagpal 58, lab in-charge of the Northern Regional Office of the Bureau of Indian Standards BIS reportedly died of a heart attack on board the Chandigarh-Delhi Kalka Shatabdi on Thursday evening. The train had reached near Sector 19 in Panchkula when Nagpal, who lived in Sector 48, Chandigarh, suffered the attack.

Nagpal, a mechanical engineer by profession, was with the Mohali office of the BIS. His family is settled in Delhi.

Chandigarh Station Superintendent R K Datta said: 8220;The BIS officer was in the C9 coach. After he suffered the attack, somebody pulled the chain. The train started only after around half an hour.8221;

8220;Due to the sudden halting, Nagpal fell off his seat and received minor injuries. He was rushed to the General Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,8221; said a police officer.

Dr Yogesh, who was on duty at GH-6, said Nagpal was a cardiac patient. The exact cause of his death would be known after a postmortem tomorrow, he said. Vehicular traffic came to a halt for around an hour near the point where the train was stopped. The situation was brought under control after traffic officials were put on the job.
