Pune, January 2: A scintillating knock of 112 by Saurashtra’s Bimal Jadeja denied the much needed win for Maharashtra in the four-day West Zone Ranji Trophy league tie at the Nehru Stadium here which ended in a draw on the final day today. Maharashtra had thus to remain content with five points from the draw because of the first innings lead while saurashtra secured three points.

Baroda defeat Gujarat

BARODA: Spinner Tushar Arothe’s spell of six for 57 enabled Baroda defeat Gujarat by an innings and a run on the final day of the West-Zone Ranji trophy league match here today.

Baroda, who were in the driver’s seat yesterday after piling a massive 462 for eight declared in first innings and taking a lead of 214 runs, completed the formalities after lunch break by bundling Gujarat for 213 runs. With this win Gujarat notched eight points.

Kudwa cracks ton

CHENNAI: A gritty unbeaten 124 (293b, 15×4, 2×6) by Ajay Kudua and his partnerships with the tailenders, especially for the eight wicket with Feroze Rasheed (37) which yielded 87 runs, helped Kerala draw their match against Tamil Nadu on the final day of the Ranji Trophy league match here.Brief scores: Kerala 323 & 256 (Kudua 124 not out, 37 Sriram 3/51), vs Tamil Nadu 466 & eight for one.

Bihar win one-dayer

AGARTALA: A harmonious batting duet by Rajib Kumar Raja (77) and Tariqur Rahman (55) enabled Bihar to win the one day East Zone Pepsi Ranji trophy match against hosts Tripura by six wickets at Polytechnic Cricket Ground here today.

Winning the toss, Tripura scored 188 for nine in 50 overs. Bihar won the match scoring 192 losing four wickets in 45 overs.

W Bengal qualify

CALCUTTA: Bengal qualified for the Wills Trophy by defeating Assam by eight wickets in their East Zone one-day Ranji match at Eden Gardens here today. Led by Saurav Ganguly, Bengal dominated the thoroughly one-sided affair even though the Test star failed to get too many runs against his name. Ganguly could score only 20. However, another upcoming player, Nikhil Haldipur, showed the way with an unbeaten 50 off 70 balls which included seven fours. Batting first, Assam could manage only 144 runs in 44.2 overs.
