Bridget Jones never put this in writing, but if she had lived in India, her diary would be less about her calorie chart and more about stories like all her cousins getting married while relatives cast her pitying glances. It was while attending a wedding that sisters, Aditi Gupta and Megha Singhal first thought of overweightshaadi.com, an online matrimonial portal for plus-size individuals.

Overweightshaadi is a one of its kind matrimonial website that caters to full-figure adults who no longer want any delays in their search for a suitable match. “Thousands of singletons who want to marry don’t have that skinny thin look that media portrays as an aspiration,” says Singhal, 20, who manages the site.

Adds Gupta, “I have colleagues and cousins who weren’t getting married because they were overweight. The website helps people with similar issues find each other,” says Gupta, 26, an IT professional who recently moved to Dubai.

Since the launch in October, the site has already had a few success stories. Gaurika Gupta, 28, now settled in Seattle, met her husband Abhishek on this site. “I had registered on many matrimonial sites, but it was here that I finally found my match,” says Gupta, who would qualify as plump, not overweight.

Teacher Dipti Kakkar, 25, met Rajat Jain and their marriage is due in February. The portal offers free registrations and caters to people all around the globe. “So what if you’re not Size Zero. There are other options,” says Gupta.
