One could still term it as the early days of their association. But Mahesh Bhupathi has already split with his South African partner Wesley Moodie. The Indian will team up with Belgian Xavier Malisse for the French Open.

Commenting on the reason for their fall-out, a dejected Bhupathi told The Indian Express: “We weren’t getting the results.”

Only earlier this month, at a press meet in the city, Bhupathi was asked about his preparations ahead of Roland Garros. Then he had said that he was eyeing a Grand Slam with Moodie. But, Bhupathi told this daily today that “it’s been two weeks since we stopped playing together.”

The biggest clay-court championship is just round the corner. Bhupathi admitted: “It’s not an ideal situation to be in,” but added that “it all happened at the last minute. But, I will be playing with Malisse and we’ll try our best and see what happens.”

For the record, Bhupathi and Moodie played only one Slam together — the Australian Open this year. The duo lost in the pre-quarters to Leander Paes and Martin Damm. Bhupathi, however, has won the French Open doubles title twice, in 1999 and 2001 — both with Paes. Malisse tasted success on the Parisian red clay in 2004 with fellow Belgian Olivier Rochus.
