
NEW DELHI, MAY 7: A deputy Manager in the Hardwar unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been sentenced to one year’s rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs 2,500 in a Central Bureau of Investigation case on charges of taking bribe, the CBI said here today.
The Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, in Dehradun also sentenced the accused to further RI of six months with a fine of Rs 1,500 under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) and ordered that both the sentences were to run concurrently, a CBI release said.
CBI said the accused abused his official position and demanded bribe for releasing the security money of Rs 1,500 deposited by the complainant for civil construction work which had already been executed by him.
It said the CBI Dehradun branch had laid a trap and the accused was caught while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 500 from the complainant.
The CBI had filed a charge-sheet in the designated court in Dehradun against the accused under sections 7 and 13(2) read with 13(1) (d) of the PCA, the release said.
