Yuki Bhambri had reasons to be wary of his unseeded Chinese adversary ahead of today’s Asia-Oceania Grade B1 ITF juniors final. After all, Wu Di had shown his class through the week.Today, though, it was the Bhambri forehand that did all the talking. Wu Di hardly got a word in, as the Indian seventh seed emerged champion after a 6-3, 6-1 win.A break in the opening game of the match for Bhambri set the tone for the rest of the proceedings, and unlike his earlier matches, the Delhi boy did not let the momentum slip out of his grasp. He showed intent and aggression, advancing to the net for a few volley winners, and his powerful serve gave the Chinese no chance.“I tried my hardest for every point today, and I think this was the best I played,” said Bhambri, speaking after the match. Later, he combined with Chinese Taipei’s Huang Liang-chi, to claim the doubles crown as well, defeating Bernard Tomic of Australia and Hiroki Moriya of Japan 7-5, 6-2.Bhambri, who was ranked 95 before this tournament, will see his ranking jump, as the points from this meet will see him crack the top 40 on the ITF Junior circuit.Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand defeated Hong Kong’s Yang-zi Jun Jun 6-1, 6-1 to claim the girls singles. In the girls’ doubles final, India’s Poojashree Venkatesh and Aleksandra Kolesnichenko of Uzbekistan defeated Sophia Mulsap and Noppawan 6-2, 6-4.
