The Supreme Court on Friday, while hearing the dispute of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan over construction of the Hansi Bhutana Feeder Canal with a 20-km-long embankment for diverting water from the Bhakra Main Line (BML) Canal, asked the Central Water Commission (CWC) to examine the issue and submit its report.
The Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran also restrained Haryana from proceeding with its decision of constructing the canal for its share of water from the Bhakra canal.
The court also asked all three states to approach the CWC within the next seven days for placing their cases before it.
