PUNE, Oct 14: University of Pune Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Arun Nigavekar, today called for establishing better standards for computer education. He said the Government was adding to the confusion in the minds of students by making diverse decisions related to education, teaching and learning.

Delivering a speech at Modern Centre for Information Technology and Research MCITR, Nigavekar expressed concern over the mushrooming of several computer institutes, which were promising high-profile jobs. The professionals who graduated from such computer institutes were being used as skilled labourers8217; in the United States, Nigavekar pointed out.

The trend is similar to the Gulf migration some fifteen years ago, he said. 8220;This is not the real goal which we desire, quot; he added.

Nigavekar urged the pioneers of computer education in the country to come together and establish a standard criterion for imparting computer education. Quality must be of paramount importance, Nigavekar emphasised.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Vijay Bhatkar, director ETH research lab emphasised the relevance and need for creating quality people in the sphere of information technology. 8220;We require institutes which excel in both man-making and skill-making,quot; he said.

Earlier, Dr Nigavekar gave away the certificates to the successful students of MCITR.
