MUMBAI, JAN 2: Baroda8217;s victory over Maharashtra in the West Zone one-day league match at Pune on Sunday has put a big question mark over Mumbai8217;s hopes of qualifying for the 2000-01 edition of the Wills Trophy limited overs tournament.Despite completing its zonal assignment with a crushing victory over Saurashtra on Sunday, Mumbai8217;s chances rest on the outcome of the Saurashtra-Baroda encounter to be played at Rajkot on January 9.

While Mumbai have logged six points from four matches, Baroda too are yapping at the former8217;s heels, tallying four points from three matches. If Baroda win their last league match against Saurashtra, they will make the grade as they would end up garnering the same number of points as Mumbai. In such an eventuality, Mumbai falls out of the race as the winner of the encounter in the league phase between the teams logging the same number of points is taken into account. Mumbai lost to Baroda by four wickets.

Had Maharashtra won against Baroda, Mumbai would have qualifiedirrespective of the Maharashtra-Gujarat game slated for January 9. Because, Mumbai had upstaged Maharashtra by seven wickets in the league opener.

BARODA WINS: Baroda made Maharashtra look like mere pedestrians as they cruised to a comfortable seven-wicket win in the West Zone Ranji one-dayer, at the Deccan Gymkhana ground.
