NEW DELHI, FEB 9: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) today announced the appointment of China’s Zhu Xiao Dong as the chief coach, scrapping of under-22 national doubles championship from next year.

The BAI also decided to make a bid to host next year’s Thomas and Uber Cup Asian qualifying rounds while declaring that it will conduct Rs 50 lakh prize money Senior and Junior Grand Prix circuit in the country this year.

Talking to newspersons after the annual general and the executive committee meetings, BAI president VK Verma and executive president Prakash Padukone said the next senior National Championship will be held in Kochi in December/January while Kohima will host the Junior Nationals in October/November. The Sub-junior and Mini Nationals are to be played in Vijaywada in September/October.

Verma said Zhu Xiao Dong has been engaged for an initial period of one year (April to March next year) and will be paid $1000 per month.

He said Dong will be stationed at Bangalore but will be available in assisting state associations at regional headquarters for three weeks per region. Zhu Xiao Dong’s name was recommended by the International Badminton Federation (IBF).
